Serbian Orthodox Saint Pictures

I wish to draw a distinction between the Serbian Orthodox Church’s theology and actual practice among people.  Orthodox theology does not necessarily teach worship of saints; however, when concepts are filtered down to people who have little exposure to historical orthodox teaching of the church or the Bible, these concepts can change to encompass an individual’s cultural worldview.  For the Roma, whose worldview reflects an active spiritual world with evil spirits, magic, witchcraft and curses, the saint pictures could have been acting as talismans against evil or objects of worship.  Therefore, they were more than just pictures of respected and revered saints.
